This the real deal?

First Look at the Badass New Superman
jreamer
the texture of the suit is overdone if u ask me. hope the movie rocks better than the last
Clarkie
Wow its Drunken Superman from the 3rd Richard Lester movie....hehehe....badass Superman...I think gone are the days of the bright blue colour from the comics..... dry.gif
summerplace31
Couldn't agree more. It's very distracting and unnecessary... Man of Steel boh-cheng-sar also bullet proof, dun need all these fancy textures. It really just needs the bright red and yellow insignia.

doesnt look right at all... rubchin.gif
pryzmm
..exactly my thought rubchin.gif ... but let all give him a chance ... laugh.gif after all the only permanent thing in this world is change !!! clap.gif

Clarkie
Hm....he could have been in a dimly-lit area...hard to tell whether the colours are really that muted. If they really are, I guess they're 'going with the times'....modern, complicated, messy world we live in....like Frank Miller's Dark Knight returns... hence, the need for a BADASS Superman, and not the cheery, indomitable Silver-age/Curt Swan version I always read about. Btw, I read elsewhere that Cavill doesn't wear the red tights anymore...wonder what the entire costume would look like....not accustomed to it currently, if you ask me.

Still, this is just a teaser. Maybe Snyder wants to start with low expectations first. More will follow. Think the official trailer should be out in roughly a year's time at least...still early days yet. Hope springs eternal!! laugh.gif

(PS: Can't wait to see pictures of Amy Adams as Lois and Russell Crowe as Jor-el! biggrin.gif)
sunnycrowe
this new costume looks like the Amazing spiderman costume... both made of basketball material....

the days of bright blue for supe and bright red for spiderman are over..... they now go for the moody look....

and why is this new superman balding?

Its just combed back like Mr Tony Tan (no offence Mr Tan ahem)....if you read the Golden age comics, Supes always had a high forehead.....Smart guys all have it, no? tongue.gif

Am I the only one here that likes the new suit? I also liked the Superman Returns suit.. When that one was first shown, many were complaining that it wasn't red enough and the S shield was too small.. Its probably a slight improvement over the Returns suit... It looks like the new suit has a bigger S shield on the chest, not sure abt the red though... But overall, I like it..
Tomcat
I also like the darker blue & red suit fm Returns, make it look more modern looking fm the bright 70's red/blue. Maybe the larger "S" is a little nod to the 70's look.
Deimos
the new superman picture looks sinister to me :|

Hm...for me I have to look at the entire suit first before passing so-called 'judgement'....The S Shield, many people claim, is actually the Earth-2 Superman shield....also a nod to the Golden age...coupled with the lines on the wrist.

I'm more bothered with the lack of the S curl AND the possible lack of UNDIES....yes, believe it or not. tongue.gif

AND........courtesy of supermanhomepage.com:

The Superman Homepage contacted a number of celebrities and personalities in the Superman world, from comic book writers and artists to film and television actors, to get their reaction to the first image of Henry Cavill as Superman released for "Man of Steel".
Here below are the first batch of answers we received. Look for more in the week ahead.

"It looks interesting. I'm not really crazy about the texturing, but I like the cape attachment. I need to see it in motion before I make a judgement call. It's certainly an effective first image, although I do wander if it reflects the tone of the movie." - Jamal Igle (Comic Book Artist)

"WOW! Henry Cavill looks powerful, majestic, and ready to beat the hell out of some bad guys! I'm now more psyched for "Man of Steel" than I was before, and I didn't think that was possible! I love the way the cape comes off of his shoulders, too. Great looking Superman." - Sterling Gates (Comic Book Writer)

"Looks Cool! I always liked the rugged Superman. Smart of them to show him doing something "Super" for the first pic released instead of a pose. Seems fresh and reverent. The royal colors on the suit look nice. Very Majestic!" - Scott Cranford (Previous Official Town Superman for Metropolis, Illinois)

"To be honest I'm not at all thrilled or impressed. The colors are too dark for Superman, I know that they are wanting an edgier story and version of Superman but he represents light and purity. Also there are no red trunks. I feel they are trying to make the suit edgy and hip with the raised rubber ridges, like Spider-man but there is no need to do that with such an iconic character as Superman. As Richard Donner, said Verisimilitude, stay true to the character and story. He's been around for nearly 75 years, people know what they want and like. These execs today at Warners make things more difficult than they need to be." - Josh Boultinghouse (Official Town Superman for Metropolis, Illinois)

"I think it was the right choice to present a dramatic and dynamic first pic of the costume instead of any of the classic poses that we've seen a million times before. This pic has an air of kick-a**-ery that is badly needed for our dear ol' Superman. I still think they went a little dark on the color scheme but that could be the lighting. Either way - lookin' good!" - Brandon T. Snider (Writer)

"Henry Cavill looks badass as Superman. So excited for 2013." - Jim Lee (DC Comics Co-Publisher)

"Plastic man" - Jeff East (Actor)

"I keep making a terrible pun. I'm reminded of a phrase that's frequently used by the critic John Simon: Only a churl would Cavill. Meaning, he certainly *looks* like the comics' image of the character. And we know he can act, sort of, though so far he hasn't really been called on to do much more onscreen than preen and posture in a sulky pretty-boy sort of way. It will all depend on whether he can sound credibly like he was raised in Kansas or sounds more like James Bond in Spandex. This will make or break the performance, especially if they want us to believe that the adoptive father from whom he's learned Englishis everybody's favorite Walking Bowl of Tapioca, the Bandit of Sherman Oaks. I note with some amusement that the photo seems carefully chosen to be coy about whether he's wearing red panties or not. Beyond that, there's not much to say except that Cavill is fortunate that the bar has not been set very high; after Brandon Routh and his clunky Christopher Reeve impression, there's nowhere to go but up." - Martin Pasko (Comic Book Writer)

The final word from this batch of responses goes to Jon Bogdanove (Comic Book Artist)...

"I'm genuinely optimistic about the new Superman blockbuster. I haven't seen The Tudors, but I think it's reasonable to assume that Cavill will be pretty good. Since Superman abandoned his U.S. citizenship, I don't see any reason he shouldn't be played by a British actor. It seems half the actors in Hollywood are British now, anyway. Maybe it has something to do with education.

don't fancy the scaly look of the costume.
Clarkie
It took some getting used to..but it's beginning to grow on me....

Well, at least, no more jokes about his underwear tongue.gif

Actually excited to see how Snyder's vision pans out biggrin.gif
eXistenZe
now this is a superman who actually looks like he can lead the JLA. but the costume will take some getting used to i guess, i still prefer the traditional one.
Elven Archer
What would the story line for 'Man of Steel' be about? Honestly, I want to see him take on badass bad guys like Darkseid or Doomsday.
Tomcat
I'm liking this costume already. More modern looking now. Yes, no more that ridiculous red undie wear outside. Costume needs to evolve after these years. Look at Batman changes from blue/black/grey cartoon look to modern all-black.
KR-A
looks like this Supes is really modeled after the Supes in the DC relaunch.

A
Clarkie
Yeah..I think they took away his underwear cos' of the rights issues with the original creators of Supes...be prepared to see him like this for A WHILE......tongue.gif

Supermanhomepage.com has many, MANY new pics of Cavill in the new costume with different poses and other miscellaneous pics...you guys might want to check it out smile.gif Looks pretty badass to me...no more screwing around with Big Blue anymore...HE MEANS BUSINESS!!! biggrin.gif

this new suits follow closely to the dc comics by jim lee, lookw weird to me at first, bt after looking at jim lee's art, i quite like it now smile.gif
Elven Archer
I swear to GOD, if the villain is some lame a** character I'm gonna skip this movie altogether and wait for the DVD release.
arnoldho
I like this version. Alas, it will probably never be picked up due to licensing issues etc.

KR-A
that one was from the Legion of Super Heroes... i reckon Supes still looks better with his cape.

A
Elven Archer
Well the rebooted version of Superman in the comic wears work shoes, jeans and a short sleeve T-shirt. He still has a red cape though.
reideen96
Let's compare wink.gif

Dun know why but kind of reminded me of this: http://i55.tinypic.com/u5552.jpg tongue.gif
Eypon Dark Tay Solo
I am quite neutral on Superman's new look. though I am interested to see how General Zod will appear in the movie.
arnoldho
The new suit's odd lines at the waist make it look aquatic to me. Sorta like Aqualad's costume in Young Justice. Don't like it the new suit that much.
Clarkie
I think the colours in the 3rd photo are photoshopped...don't recall them being so......bright.....I thought dark colours are the rage now.....smile.gif
sunnycrowe
is he too well-built? or is the costume too tight? somehow i feel the muscles n tight suit are very distracting.... Superman shld hav some muscles but he is no He-man or Conan in terms of appearance....

furthermore, without the red underwear, the size of that thing looks more prominent since the suit is blue throughout.... maybe the film makers will digitally reduce that thing, like what they did for Routh.....
Elven Archer
Superman should have some mass. I found Brandon Routh a little on the thin side. Henry Cavill looks pretty buffed up to play Superman which is a plus point for me. Even Tom Welling in the Smallville TV series was quite buffed. He is suppose to be more powerful than a locomotive, so how can someone that strong not have significant mass.

This shall always be one of my favourite pics of Superman.
Count
I intially thought it would look weird without the red undies, but having seen the pics, I think it looks fine. The new suit looks more alien, which is fitting for the character.

I must say Cavill looks jacked!

First look of Jor-El

http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles..._comments_title
imranbecks
Jor-El ooks good.... The costume looks like Thor's movie costume though...hahaha...
Elven Archer
Hmm...I love Russell Crowe but not too big on him being Jor-El. I would have preferred someone 'wiser-looking' though he looks good in the Kryptonian suit and one of the members in the link is right, he's wearing what looks like Superman's costume underneath.
Clarkie
Looks like he's ready for some kinda battle...Gladiator anyone? tongue.gif

Maybe a battle scene at Krypton featuring General Zod too? biggrin.gif
aeiou2aeiou
He's looking good, wonder what's the story behind these scenes?

arnoldho
Anyone thinks he looks more like post-Hulk transformation Bruce Banner? happy.gif
Clarkie
Read rumours that he's actually wearing a muscle suit. Can't tell though. smile.gif
Kyori
Looks to me that superman forgot to wear his red undies in the 3rd pic way above... lol

That photo was photoshopped... The red doesn't look that bright and there are no red around the waist area... Here is the real shot.... It looks good, but add a pair of dark red speedos on the outside and it will look even better.. Without the red speedos, its just not Superman enough.. Its sort of his trademark on the costume to have them... Why did the producers leave that part out!!!!??? >>>

Unicron Nemesis
I think it's based on the new costume in the recent DC relaunch. But I agree that it just doesn't scream Superman. Ironically, it looks more Ultraman to me (the evil alt-universe Supes and not the Japanese character)

Or a GOOD Ultraman in a parallel universe.

Opps what did I just say. I blame Crisis on Infinite Earths. HAHAHA....tongue.gif Just kidding. Liked that story. I think the costume change has to do with DC losing much of Superman's origin in 2013. I hear Wonder Woman, Spiderman and Wolverine are in for tough times ahead...rights issues etc etc rubchin.gif

Costume change also to have it reflect better in this day and age.. Viewers nowadays usually want realism and with realism, comes a different looking costume that is more believable.. Not those cheap, simple looking ones of the past... No offense to George Reeves, Christopher Reeve and Dean Cain... But if Superman Returns can have those speedos, why not on this new one in Man Of Steel??? Its Superman's trademark... Without it, its like having James Bond wearing t-shirt and jeans for his missions...

Haha yeah...if things stay this way, we'll be the last batch to remember how Superman USED to look tongue.gif And it's all because many people have mentioned how boring and dated Superman is (not me of course)...I guess WB wants to cater to the needs of the new-age audience...baloney I say yuck.gif
