Anyone had friends or experiences of owning/buying one?
Now, the minimum value of houses is RM500,000 for Singaporeans to buy one in Johor if I am not wrong.

it might make sense....(for those with extra $$).
1. Freehold
2. it's landed property not a HDB flat.
3. Can consider it as an inheritance for your offspring.
4. Can use it for getaway during weekend or for family outing (big family 20+ ppl) and a small party.
Cons.
1. Security - but i think for some places it's not an issue.
2. Cannot really rent out - depends on location, if it's near some ICT belt might be possible to rent out.
Based on the current rate of Sg Condos and even HDB, I feel very overpriced...oh well thatis another story.

Those in gated communities (with own security) seem popular with Singaporeans.
Yeah don't expect to be able to rent the ppty out. That's one big difference..

if u get house ard 新山 might be easier to rent out. A lot of ppl frm far like melaka, ipoh.. etc, working in sg rent houses there. But nv expect the rental fee be high.. especially convert to sgd.

just to share some opinion as a Malaysian myself
As residence
1. New estate can gets real quiet with bad sales. such situation is very vulnerable to burglary / thieves. this applies to KL as well.
2. Avoid buying yet to built house, there chances the whole construction get halted with no updates or anything.
As investment
1. for JB, a 20x70 double storey terrace near UTM can only rent out ard RM600-800 / month. cost of the place is somewhere RM270-300K+
2. most likely "coffee money" will be part of purchase

I am not looking to rent out.
In fact, I am considering to stay in Johor, cause my future wife prefers to stay in Malaysia.
Where can I get hold of more information?
I can't seem to find much information on the net.
The flats here are way overpriced. For S$250,000, I can only get at most a 3 room resale.

Do a quick research thru the internet/papers, u will realised every few yrs the M gahmt will chge ruling for foreign ownership of property in Malaysia.
"As of Nov. 1, foreigners no longer need the approval of the country's Foreign Investment Committee to buy properties worth 250,000 ringgit, as long as the properties are for their own use. -2006"
"... on home ownership in Malaysia - the houses have to be at least two-storeys high and until recently had to cost a minimum of just RM250,000 Singaporeans are finding it a breeze across the border. The minimum cost has just doubled to RM500,000. -2010"
Have u read the RPGT (Exemption) Order 2009 or RPGT (Exemption) (No.2) Order 2007 and ‘Exemption’ is not ‘abolition’.

New buildings r gd in M. But they lack maintenance. Everything is on ur own, security, painting of building after x yrs, street lamp maintenance, road maintenance. U dont have to look dat far, just a heartlander in Spore upgraded to low-end condo u will realised Sporean mentality gotta chged. Everything decided by gahmt. HDB can look gd after so many yrs bcos everyone thot conservative fees/town council can cover everything. Wait till u upgraded to ur own property in Spore or decent condo. Esp those development dat nds u to pay n pay for everything, sinking funds, capital funds...etc no hanging out clothes, must use dryer...etc
I used to built them not live in them. If u still thk condo is just an upgrade, u r probably living in the lower scale ones. Difference? Singapreans r funny, got money to spend on child tuition, but held at common rm, save aircon money; shower at pool toilet, save water money, wash vegetable at swimming pool, shocking rt? so if u stay at so-called expensive condo, behave like one. True story.

I have frds dat buys/rent at JB (maybe applies to JB only). Most if not all regretted after 12 mths. Everything is rosy in the beginning, travelling, cheap food, buying power...but everything became a con one yr on....travelling (morning jam etc), cheap food (far away, reqd driving etc), buying power (different nationality different price/rules etc) depreciation etc....
I guess it will be different if u retire there.

As bro Luke says...Same as my frens who lived there as well. It started very nicely. Very big house, cheap food, nice neighbours) fact says, everything is cheap. But the honeymoon ends when u started to realise the lack of convenience (shops are all far away, jams, no relatives or frens to help u in case of emergencies).

Got 1 fren who bought a house there with gate and security. Didnt return home for 1 wk due to his dad admitted to hospital. Came back and found house empty. When asked the neighbour, got a shock as the neighbour thought he had moved away. The neighbour even helped moved some of his stuffs in to the lorry...
