hi all, I don't know which thread I should post this in so started a new one.
I'm a little backwards and still playing on my PS2 which has recently died on me. Think it's a pretty common problem, the console starts up but goes straight to menu screen although the game disc is inside. Have tried a lot of discs (all original) but this still happens. There is no disc reading error.
Anyone encountered or know how to solve this for PS2 and if need professional repair how much you reckon? My local game shop quoted about $100 to change the lens as they say it's a lens problem, not too sure if this price is ok.

I'm not sure how techinical you are, but you can try to open up your PS2 (just the external casing).
On the power and observed the lens motor whether is it moving?
If it does, maybe apply len cleaning solution on an earbud and wipe the lens throughly.
Then try again and see if the unit is able to detect the disc again.
Last time lens changing is about $150. So $100 is consider reasonable.

hey, thanks!

I am not very savvy with these hardware fixing, so don't think I want to disassemble it, but I don't hear the motor moving though, so think the lens is not even moving to scan the disc (it's just stuck in one position).

Running the PS2 on emulator very slow. I did an experiment with my cpu and very lag though it helps in excelling on those Pop'N Music games.
A shop in sim lim once fixed up my PS2. Kinda forgot whats the name but its a shop occupy half a lot on lvl 3 or 4. Though the problem I faced back then was certain games can be played and others cant and controller cannot be used on certain games (and yes, they're originals)

PS2 Emulator works fine on my Core i5 cpu. Alternatively can run USB hdd on PS2, unless ur PS2 motherboard faulty.
