Although Bayonetta has more than a few similarities to Devil May Cry, I believe that this game is worth playing... but it's hard to recommend the PS3 version when the 360 version is so much better. Even when you consider the fantastic combat system, the slowdown and load times really do spoil the fun.

With that said, Bayonetta is still stylish, entertaining and unique. If you have no other choice but to purchase the PS3 version, you'll still get a kick out of it. Just be ready to be exorbitantly patient.

4.5 Presentation
Incredible style mixes with a fantastic backstory. Mildly hampered by low-budget filmstrip cutscenes and a loose plot.

7.5 Graphics
Bayonetta is an extremely good-looking game, both in terms of its art design and visuals.

9.0 Sound
Irresistible mix of upbeat jazz with intensely serious choirs. Voice acting is a bit campy but still extremely enjoyable.

8.5 Gameplay
Bayonetta has one of the best combat systems I've ever experienced. Fluid, fun and unique.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
Bayonetta was designed for multiple playthroughs. Chapters can be replayed at any time upon completion and there's plenty to unlock and purchase even after you've beaten the game.

Although Bayonetta has more than a few similarities to Devil May Cry, I wholeheartedly believe that this game is a must-play. Buyers beware, however: the 360 version is vastly superior to the PS3 version on a technical level, so PS3 owners fortunate enough to own a 360 should absolutely avoid the PS3 copy. For more info on the discrepancy between the versions, feel free to read my full review of the disappointing PS3 port.

Overall, Bayonetta is gorgeous, stylish, entertaining and deliciously unique. To say that it is my favorite action game yet is an understatement. Kamiya and his team at Platinum Games deserve a round of applause (and perhaps a few platonic hugs) for their incredible work on this project. Bayonetta will remind you how cool videogames can be.

Playing this now but got waylaid when Darksiders was released...Bayonetta is really thoroughly enjoyable in terms of gameplay...but in all I prefer Darksiders for it's graphics and storyline

I am comparing the PS3 versions of both games

Am playing bayonetta for the X360 version and i must say it rocks, def a must for DMC fans, the moves and techniques are both stylish and cheeky for the main char, story line are okay (considering i am at chapter 3 only) It takes a while to grasp it. but def there is replay value:D.

Heard there are performance issue on the PS3 version of this game , clanky laggy and long loading times. I myself suffered a stall at one of the scene, but its just a random one as it runs after a reboot.

Been hearing good things abt this game.. Too bad the PS3 version has loading problems..

I bought Darksiders which came out on the same day and after playing it, I think Bayonetta shd b better.. Maybe will trade for this after I complete Darksiders
General Grievous
The Xbox360 version is better because SEGA did a lousy port of the 360 version to the PS3 as the game was created for the 360 in the first place.
keatster
The PS3 version has tons of lag spikes compared to the 360 ver.
