sweet news from Kotaku site.

We already knew it was coming, but amongst yesterday's MS/Acti marketing leaks were some further details on the upcoming Marvel: Ultimate Alliance II. The game will be set during Marvel's recent "Civil War" story arc, with players forced to choose sides in the conflict. There'll supposedly be "over 20" playable Marvel characters, including the Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Venom and the Human Torch, and players will be able to "fuse" two character's powers together to give one character hybrid abilities. The release mentions the game will be appearing on 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP & DS.

wow great news.
its about time they bring on Hulk and Venom for all the systems! rock.gif
rustyboy02
Great news! I really enjoyed Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 on PSP.
super_convoy
Hulk and Venom already playable on first Marvel: UA as downloadable characters (or starting characters if you buy the Gold Edition).

Not that good to use IMO. Sabertooth is much sweeter. smile.gif

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Civil War? Zombies for Spidey?

Intellisponse, a survey and research company, regularly works with game companies to feel out upcoming games, and see what features gamers are most interested in. This past weekend, however, they inadvertently announced several upcoming games. Thanks to the folks at Neogaf.com, we’ve been tipped to a lot of information from these leaks. All news derived from this will be treated as rumor for now, but Newsarama has reached out to confirm it.

First, the previously announced Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (MUA2) from Activision had new details leaked. The biggest is the storyline; according to the information in the Intellisponse document, MUA2 will take place in Marvel Civil War. Players will take one side or the other, with over 20 characters to choose from. Fusing powers will be a new feature, building on the combo system seen in the previous game (and the X-Men Legends series). The example given is lightning webs, from fusing Spider-man and Storm’s abilities. The other characters mentioned in the release are Hulk, Wolverine, Venom, and the Human Torch. That makes it sound like the Thunderbolts will be involved. Of course, readers know Hulk was not involved in Civil War at all, so some liberties are being taken. Now word yet on who is writing the script this time around (C.B. Cebulski wrote the previous game), nor if Raven Software, who developed the last three games, is taking the reins again. As soon as that is confirmed, you will see it here. The game is due out for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and DS.

In addition to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, the next next Spider-man game, after this fall’s Web of Shadows, will allegedly be entitled Spider-man vs. Marvel Zombies. The game is said to take place in a possible future, 2149, where Marvel heroes and villains have become zombies. Spidey’s mission is to defeat the zombie horde, OR join it, implying there will be multiple choices as far as gameplay goes. It will continue the open-world style of the last few Spider-man games, as well.

Rounding up the super-heroic rumors from this massive leak, we saw a few other bits. A Spider-man game for Wii using the balance board peripheral from Wii Fit promises to let you “step into Spider-man’s shoes.” Possible cover art for the aforementioned Spiderman: Web of Shadows shows guest appearances by Venom and Wolverine (in addition to the already known Luke Cage, amongst others), and implies the player can choose to save the city or take it over, depending on costume choice (the red-and-blues or the symbiote). Last but not least, Powers and Titans a game that sounds reminiscent of MMORPG City of Heroes, but with a more action oriented slant, allowing console gamers to form their own team of the planet’s greatest heroes.

Activision certainly seems to be taking full advantage of their super-heroic tendencies. They’ve had several monetary hits in their previous outings, with most being well received by critics and fans. Time will tell if all of these pan out as full-fledged games, and when they’ll actually be coming to our homes.
super_convoy
Hope they don't change the gameplay too much in the midst of all the excitement. The reason this franchise is fun is because of the Diablo-style dungeon-crawling gameplay.

Yippee one of my favourite games now coming with the SEquel~!!!

PS3 version is out in stores.

Finz
any review? i'm actually looking forward to this game,....
but ever since batman aa, i don't think no other superhero game can compare to it. hahahaha
super_convoy
Hope that the Xbox 360 one will come out today. I haven't played Batman yet after my exertions in 100%-ing Bully: Scholarship Edition. I just want to co-op MUA with all my kakis and have those happy gaming nights together again. We haven't really have an adventure since Gears of War 2 and Resident Evil 5.

PS3 R1 version is out today.. Saw it during lunch..

Btw just completed Batman: AA last weekend. Highly recommended and there's new maps for download coming in the next 2 weeks.
Finz
i think there won't be a R3 version for this game, as the R1 version is imported by softsource,.....
super_convoy
Certain places have stock for Xbox 360 already. One of my friends got it. I hope my two other friends + me can get our copies ASAP. Target save-the-world time is 8pm!

First impressions after co-op in a team of four (Human Torch, Storm, Ironman, Iceman):

- camera view is fixed, and is more distant vs the first game -> this makes the action really messy and at times you don't know what's happening... this is countered by the "just-keep-mashing-punch-button" method laugh.gif
- xtreme powers replaced by fusions, and fusions are DA BOOM in this game.
- three types of general fusions: targeted, clearing, guided. I read that the number of playable characters + these three types = 276 unique fusions among characters. I particular enjoyed the Torch+Storm one that I've been spamming with one of my friends all night. In any of the three types of fusions, you'll be required to do a "hi-score" (e.g., hit 15 enemies with a guided fusion) and doing 20 each of the three types will win you an achievement/ trophy
- boss fights has "a bit" of puzzle-solving, but so far we've not seen any boss that requires button-sequence mini-game like the first game
- "super heroic" difficulty is "a bit" tough laugh.gif
- you don't get achievements/ trophies from playing casual mode
- team and personal boosts can be quickly added to your own character without having to pause the game; just press the select/ back button and you can call up a menu to do so, while your friends can still fight enemies
- trivia game is still there, and the questions are much, much (and much, and much) easier than all previous Marvel games; when doing this in a team, you can earn fusion and EXP together, and you can do a "trivia fusion" by pressing the correct answers at the same time too. Just download an answer guide and cheat your way through for the EXP - all four of us levelled up after doing the first set of questions laugh.gif

I can't play this game a lot these few days my birthday is coming and I'm getting lots of dinner invites. I'll try to post more points after trying it out further.

conditionred
IGN review gave the game a 7.7 and disappointments include: only 1 alternate costume per character (compared to 3 in the 1st MUA), fusion moves looking very similar (eg. fastball special with wolverine.. doesn't matter who throws him, still looks the same), very similar backdrops (unlike varied ones like underwater or skrull world in MUA)

It's reported that load times are quite long too.. In particular when u load the alternate costume, it takes 7 seconds on the PS3 and 4 seconds on the x360.. ouch

But will still get this game =) Hopefully.. 2nd hand..
super_convoy
Best to use elemental characters to get the most of out fusions, coz melee characters' fusions a bit useless as far as we've tried. Elemental characters fusions somehow just have a larger area of attack when we tried (e.g., anything that involves Storm - she's overpowered!). Maybe with more practice we can do better with the likes of Thing and Wolverine.

Plus, one thing that I don't like - there's next to no looting. I really enjoyed picking up those gears (helmets, gloves, armors, etc.) in the first game and equipping them, but now it's just getting boosts, which is disappointing.

Overall, based on my couple of hours of play last night... I'd still prefer the first game.

Finz
anyone knows the status of co-op? i have read in forums everywhere that the 2nd player might not even keep EXP in online co-op. Any info? What about offline co-op? If i play single player and go co-op with a friend online, what will happen to my single player save?

And yeah, the loading time in PS3 SUCK!!!!! this actually have made me stick to one team. its just too troublesome to change members.... 7 seconds is just too long for a character loading. Hopefully they'll patch this and maybe give a better "Install" option for the PS3 version

My impression so far: basically MUA1 with improved graphic. nothing new,.. nothing special
super_convoy
I completed the Pro Registration campaign. In-game time reads only eight hours. That's... pretty fast for a RPG.

I'm now replaying on Legendary difficulty level, and obviously also because I need to do the Anti-Registration campaign. I'm taking a break after the Lucia boss fight to get some achievements out of the way, e.g., completing 276 unique fusions, etc.

As I said earlier, I prefer the first game.

Finz
which heroes do you use for your team? i'm gonna start my legendary run soon tongue.gif
so far, my team consists of: jean, thor, hulk and thing
super_convoy
My main is Wolverine. The rest I use them all coz need to unlock the alternate costumes.

For Legendary, I'd go for Jean, Nick Fury, Wolverine and Storm. Jean's RT+X and Fury's RT+X are very effective boss killers. Wolverine's simple melee is effective enough, and if you do RT+A, you can clear a crowd really fast. Storm's clearing fusions are also a crowd smasher. Unfortunately this team has no team bonuses.

Also, since I'd still need to unlock costumes for those characters for anti-reg (Captain America, for one), I won't be able to stick with this team for long. I've to say that the costumes are so easy to unlock this time round, but I'm disappointed that they've no effect to the characters unlike the last game. To make matters worse, there's only one alternate skin per character.

Meanwhile, I'm at 241 unique fusions already. I'll get the complete 276 fusions achievement tonight, I'm sure. laugh.gif

Finz
i've got my fusions yesterday smile.gif did it on the 1st sim mission after getting the last character. hehehe

actually, what's the point of storm if i already have jean in the team? jean's R2 + square power can clear a room in no time.

Thing and hulk are my 2 tanks, but i'm thinking of switching out one of them

Thor is just a no brainer to have in the team,.. a beast,.. hahahaha

For me personally, i just don't want to use wolverine. he's been in so many other games. I've already played as wolverine in wolverine origins in an entire game,.. hehe
super_convoy
True, if you put an absorbing boost and a stamina boost for the team, Jean is really overpowered.

As for Wolverine, this one has less skills than the Origins game, which is a disgrace! I kept trying to do lock-on lunge like in that game. laugh.gif

The fusions, I farmed until fell asleep last night. Most of my characters have 16-19 out of 23, and the trial and error was such a pain in the a**. I ended up sleeping in the living room with my xbox running. Too much alcohol from earlier birthday bash. biggrin.gif

super_convoy
Got all 276 fusions. It got easier towards the end. For those who want to do it, just fuse the character with those that have not completed their 23, and you'll get a higher chance of getting a unique one, thus making it faster to do.

I've gotten all the alternate costumes too for the record.

I'll devote the next two evenings on doing the heroic deeds for boosts. I realized you can do most of them in Basic Training 1 too. laugh.gif I was able to do those "Score 5 High Scores Fusions with XXX (character)" ones with no problems. However, I was unable to get Wolverine's "10 Fastball Fusion" during this training. Don't know why.

Finz
when you do a fastball against those shielded baddies, does it count as 1 fastball fusion high score?

any tips for the sim missions? those are extremely tough ><
super_convoy
I think Fastball is a targeted fusion, so as long as the counter at the bottom right of the screen shows "1 of 1" (for targeted fusions), it should count as one high score. I'll try to get Wolverine's remaining two fastballs in mission replay.

For sim, just spam Jean Grey's RT+X. Equip the 100% stamina boost and power damage boost. That should work for most of them on Heroic. laugh.gif
I'm doing them on Legendary though. Really, really tough. The robots are a nightmare. I don't know whether I can keep my levels and play these missions in a Heroic game after I complete anti-reg.
conditionred
Borrowed my fren's copy. Initially feel the game was a little messy cos the hero u are controlling is so small and there are so many things going on.. But after an hour, starting to get the hang of it..

I gotta say, the PS3 version seems to load quite long (not sure abt how much faster the x360 version loads)

Quite happy gambit is in the game..

Overall, it will rate it a 6 ot 7 out of 10. Batman: Arkham Asylum would be a higher 9 =p
super_convoy
Anyone playing this on Xbox 360 and would like to do the simulator missions together, please hit me up on XBL. My GT is Optimus Neeker.

I'm on Legendary now and Level 60 for all characters. The difficulty level and maximum character levels affect the difficulty of these sims. The robots are impossible to kill alone, and taking a hit from simple goons shave off 1/4 of my health on the adrenalin surge one.

Finz
is it the heavy metal sim? i did it with jean, thing, hulk and thor.
just turn on all switches, fly up, round the robots up and start blasting with her pyro something power. a few blasts will take down them robots. just round them up nicely to blast the whole crowd for every button press. for me, i equip the stamina 100%, 20% power damage and another power + damage. once you have a fusion bar, do a fusion with hulk (targeted) and target the middle robot in the crowd. rinse and repeat. you'll get it in no time biggrin.gif
heavier metal is actually easier. no fusion, but much lower requirement.
super_convoy
I did both with Nick Fury eventually.

YY to fly. RT+Y to spam the move that sends fireballs down to all the goons below. No risk of dying at all, and with stamina boosts you don't even need to wait for recharge. Heavy Metal 110K. Heavier Metal 140K+. On Legendary. Awesome.

I'm now left with Adrenalin Surge and Breakout to all golds.

Finz
grats man clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif
breakout was the last thing that i needed to do to get my platinum trophy tongue.gif
due to the super long load times and the frequency of it happening, i stopped playing completely after getting platinum. couldn't ever bother replaying missions to get some of the missing collectibles,....
couldn't even bother switching my team members. jean, hulk, thing and thor stays on full time 80-90% of the entire game. ha3
super_convoy
Breakout is frustrating isn't it? A lot of times it's due to luck (i.e., where the prisoner spawns).

I managed to hit 60K with about 6 minutes on the clock. I should've stay in a room and spam Jean Grey or Human Torch on the robots outside (each hit nets 100-200 points, should have enough time). But I got cocky, went out to try for more and got detected. laugh.gif

Finz
yeah, you're right. breakout was pure luck. when i managed to do it, it was because a lot of the prisoners spawns extremely near the exit. after getting about 50k and more than 5 mins, i just spam torch's power and hit the sentry robot. luckily, there were 3 of them that walks pass and i racked up points quite fast. in the end, i got a score of over 100k for breakout tongue.gif
super_convoy
Gold medals for all sims, woohoo!

Now, combat mastery. Need the following:

- Hit robot with 20 bombs thrown by robots
- Hit 50 enemies with fire, water and electricity (this one should be easy by simply equipping three boosts of one element each, and then melee 50 enemies to death)
- Chain reaction of five explosions (is this glitch? I've tons but they didn't register)
- Kill 5 enemies with one thrown object (I guess get the beefy guys to pick up a car on the first stage and then throw it at the enemies there...)

After this, I'll do the trivia fusions one (must be co-op).

And then to mop up I'll find 200 boosts (at 160 now) and I'm done with this. Should be 1K by then! laugh.gif

Finz
just a suggestion, for the hit robot with own grenade, i did it in the stage where you fight multiple man. before that, you need to kill some big fat robots, and they all throw grenades every now and then. just don't kill the robot, pick up the grenades and chuck them to the horde of baddies that kept on rappeling down tongue.gif
super_convoy
It works that way? I thought must throw into robots?

Finz
nope. the description is a bit misleading. you don't actually have to throw the grenades back to the one who threw it. smile.gif
super_convoy
No, what I meant is the rappelling dudes are considered "robots" is it?

Is there any way to solo the missions, coz my allies are too eager and powerful. Always killed the small robots that I want to throw grenades at. laugh.gif

Also bro, do you know any place to do the 5 explosion chains? It's pissing me off big time coz I did it many, many times but the achievement tracker just doesn't appear. I'm close to my 200 boosts and I can get my friend to help me with the trivia fusions, so I'm left with Combat Mastery to 100% completion...

Finz
hahaha, the rapelling troops will count. i did mine there actually.
unfortunately, you can't solo the mission, you'll still need to bring the other 3 guys along. it should't take them that fast to kill the big grenade throwing robot though.
as for the 5 explosion,.. i'm not sure man, i think i got mine just by pure luck.
super_convoy
I had to redo Combat Mastery for my last achievement because the 5 chain explosion glitched on me, but I'm glad I got it out of the way. 100% complete.

And now, DLC:

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/marvel...p;mode=previews

Finz
i think it's a bit a too little too late for the DLCs. I'm extremely dissapointed in the game. It feels like a half finished game overall. years of development and this it what came into fruition? i think MUA1 is far superior compared to MUA2, nevertheless, i don't mind trying the new characters if its a free DLC (yea, i wish)
but for now, my MUA2 will stay on the old games shelf tongue.gif
super_convoy
I think the DLC will definitely be paid since achievements/ trophies are involved.
