OK...a very old question.. WHo used to play Street Fighter 1, w/o those very crazy moves...

Where you could only use, Ryu, Ken, Dhalism, Chun Li, Guile, the green monster, the russian... I think there were only 8 fighters available to play.. tongue.gif

and were you really really GOOD.. devil.gif

Street Fighter 1 was on PC Engine. At that time, there was no Arcade SF and no Super Nintendo yet.

There was only Ryu & Ken to use. And your special moves were limited to fireball, helicopter kick and hoyuken

If you talkinga bout that, yes I played it.
Issue01
i think Prodimus' talking abt the arcade one..
no i wasn't good.. still in primary school that time..

There was the arcade version..damn slow..and the button was super huge..o-- the harder you hit the stronger the punch / kick or fireball...

and the uppercuts were hard to get working..

Played those had sore fists literally...

I'm referring to the refined version..with the 8 fighters..is it SF2?? or still SF1..
Lord_angelus
I play abit of it.... very hard... sleep.gif
Issue01
think its street fighter.. SF2 has characters like cammy, deejay and feilong..
artspraken
I think SF2 was on Super Nintendo.

I distinctively remember SF1 is on PC Engine only. That's what made it so popular. In fact, I still have the game!

I dunno the Arcade version.

Arcade or home ver of SF1, you only get to choose either Ken or Ryu(default is Ryu, 2nd player gets Ken). Both of them were very similar, almost too similar.

You fought against fighters like Eagle(the ang mo with the 2 sticks who also appears in Capcom vs SNK), Adon(avail in SF Alpha), Sagat(last character). Cannot remember who else liao.

Later on, Capcom released Street Fighter 2, World Warriors, where one had 6 buttons(3 punch, 3 kick) and you could choose Ken, Ryu, Chun Li, Guile, Dhalsim, E.Honda, Zangief and the Brazilian green monster.

Later on, they released SF2 with the extra 4 boss characters(Vega, sagat, Bison and Balrog), followed shortly by Super SF2 to include 4 new characters(Fei Long, Cammy, T.Hawk and Deejay). They then released Super SF2 Grandmasters' Challenge, which includes for the first time, Super moves and a whole new fighting system that was so technical it for once, felt like it was hard to beat the game.

Then they went backwards and released all the SF Alpha/Zero series, with more anime art before releasing SFIII.

Sigh..wish I can get the arcade version here...wonder if any of the arcade shops have the motherboard somewhere would not mind buying the arcade game ... tongue.gif

Goodness I just googled SF2 I did not realise there were so many versions!!!

But I think the SF1 released on HuCard for PC Engine was the first. It is special in that you can use only Ryu or Ken, and there are only 3 special moves

The latter releases of SF2 have many variants.

The version that I liked had some bugs.

1. Dhalism could dissappear
2. Guile had the shadowless throw..which could throw any opponent off the screen anywhere. There are some variants of that throw, but essentially it's the same.

I think the other player had some funny bugs also..but this is the best version. Although detractors would say, fighters got dizzy easy after 3 hits, and the the damage count was too high..or Ryu / Ken had too powerful an uppercut...etc etc... but this was classic.
sean
i always use ken.

Yep, I remember those, and Ryu/Ken's dragon punch was invincible on the way up, so many turtles used the light dp to take out all opponents.
G-man
Oh, another version, some taiwanese re-programmed version(meaning not Capcom official version) had the multiple fireballs or allowed Guile to repeatedly fire sonic booms or unleashes fireballs when doing flash kicks. That must've been the most ridiculous version ever.

crap..Ken/ Ryus UC..could do a 50% damage if done right..even saw someone do a Hard punch, small kick, large UC...and it took out 50% and made the person dizzy.. rock.gif

Yep, but that one also needed some timing skill, and considering SF2 then was a relatively uncharted game in the respect of sprite timing, I'd say it was pretty fair. Also, one could easily counter the moves before the dragonpunch with a light kick, cos the lighter the kick, the higher the priority but with lower damage.

I dun play SF.. I play Beh kit.. laugh.gif
yeekin
think prod is talking about sf2

Oh and the EX series as well, which frankly was unique in that it introduced Super Cancelling(you could chain one super move into another) and a superb training system, was let down by the sub standard 3d graphics.

Used to play it alot till I got sick of playing by myself. My friend used to bunk in at my place and we used to play it till the wee hours of the morning. Those were the days when PS just got released so there were other good games like Wipeout and Resident Evil. rock.gif rock.gif rock.gif

SF1 is a side walking beat-them-up stage crossing game.
SF2 is the 1-on-1 fighting game.
flayn80
Those were the days!! I always play SF. All of the versions!! laugh.gif Except the versions where it have the marvel characters. Considered them crap.

The best graphics is still SF3 3rd Strike, can chain lots of crazy combos too.
freshjive
Since we're on the topic of Street Fighter, here's a remake done using Flash. Charge your power bar by pressing two kicks together. EnjoY!

Street Fighter Flash

P.S. To choose Akuma, go to Chun Li and press Up.
Ryu

hmmn compared sf 3 n sf3 2nd impact..sf3 3rd strike is alot better.. but peronally i feel among the sf games.. excluding snk vs capcom2.. strret fighter alpha 3 has the most nice anime graphics ..u can also do combos by juggling yr opponenets.. my fave character was evil ryu...
hmm ever since akuma appeared...ryu gets his dark side...n also we have evil or shin akuma..now snk vs cap total chaos we have violent ken..
maybe 1 day if capcom ever released capcom vs snk 3, players can get to choose a team of evil ryu, shin akuma n violent ken..a super power team i bet..kekeke unleashed the evil in within.. drool.gif

SF 1...so damn old school...and its great to see that it had evolved greatly...haha...yup used to play Sf1 during primary school days where there were shops renting the system for hourly charges...humm thought the game is most unfair since when u practically use KEn,Ryu where u do fireball and uppercut, thats when u win...

yo Proddy, the one you're referring to was a buggy version. there's a fixed one where you can't do those moves like Guile's Invisible Throw coz they fixed the bug. the others y'all are talking about with all the crazy stuff like Fireballs flying out during a Dragon Punch or Flash Kick were bootleg hardware. quite common in Malaysian arcades last time biggrin.gif don't know about here coz i was living in KL at that time SF2 was popular. there were a lot of 'funny' bootleg boards around where you can do different stuff. there was even one where you could do special moves like fireballs and dragon punches in mid-air and keep jumping up and up till you dissapear off the screen and reappear through the bottom again. if you do that with Zangief and grab the guy for a spinning piledriver, you can drop back down through the floor and do 100% dmg with one move! laugh.gif can even go 2 or 3 screen lengths up.

if you're interested in buying the arcade hardware, the boards can be found on eBay. advisable to source the cabinets locally though, from those entertainment companies. unless you want to ship in the whole arcade machine from overseas on a palette. that's going to kill you. would be much cheaper to get an empty one with a monitor locally and get the board you want from eBay. can even get other games and plug them into your cabinet by swapping the boards. if you're lucky, maybe they might even still have some of the old game boards here that arcades don't want anymore. it's just a matter of how hard you search for it.
Prodimus
good idea...hmm.. time to look around for one of those on ebay..yes.. devil.gif

Yep, that's the sucky bootleg one we were talking about. All flashy Hadokens, no real strategy.

Personally, my favourite has to be SF2 Grand Masters' Challenge where they first introduced the Super move. That was one tough momma to beat and one needed to be able to zone correctly, crossover almost perfectly and time most moves properly. Definitely not a game for turtles who hide one corner and Hadoken or Shoryuken non stop.

Favourite moves in SF2 GMC has to be Ryu's sliding heavy punch(press FWD + heavy punch), his downward medium punch(FWD + medium punch), mid-air juggle punch or Ken's new styled kicks(FWD + Quarter circle down + Med or Heavy kick) to take out those who like to stay in a corner and block low. Another favourite has to be Chun-Li's new mid-air juggle kick that hits twice if timed correctly. rock.gif rock.gif rock.gif

Ha! SF2 is a classic. I only got the chance to play it when they released it on Sega. I distinctively remember my fingers getting blisters because of that tongue.gif....
