2006 should see the return of 6" Batman & Superman figures to general retail with the launch of Mattel's new DC Superheroes line. Sculpted by the Four Horsemen these figures will be based on Batman and Superman characters, as they appeared in the comics, much like Mattel's previous comic-based Batman line. However this time around the figures will contain more articulation then ever before. Look for the first wave to be released sometime in January 2006.
Wave one is slated to include: Batman, Bane, Scarecrow & Killer Croc (with new head sculpt). Wave two is slated to include: Superman, Bizarro, Doomsday & Supergirl (Kara In-Ze - white shirt version). Wave three will be another bat-themed assortment and should include Azrael. Click here for pics of some of the figures. DC Super Heroes Checklist Series 1 Batman (December 2005) __Batman (with blue or grey knee pins) (comic Batman line Dx. Bat Signal Batman retool, without signal) __Bane (comic Batman line repack, with retooled hands) __Scarecrow (comic Batman line repack) __Killer Croc (comic Batman line retool with completely new head) __CHASE: Bane with Osito Series 2 Superman (April 2006) __Superman __Supergirl (Linda Danvers) __Doomsday __Bizarro __CHASE: Unknown Series 3 Batman (August 2006) __Battle Damaged Batman (Series 1 Batman repaint or retool) __Robin (comic Batman line repack? Repainted with accurate gloves?) __Azrael __Mr. Freeze (comic Batman line retool with more articulation and new paint job) __CHASE: Unknown __CHASE 2: Unknown Target Exclusive 2-Packs (August 2006) __Superman and Clark Kent __Superman Vs. Bizarro __Batman and Batgirl Nothing is known about which figures are in these packs (regular, chase, repaint, etc.) Could also have been delayed along with the new Batman/Batgirl wave. Series 4 Superman* (October 2006?) __Battle Damaged Superman (presumably Series 2 Superman repaint or retool) __Lex Luthor __Brainiac __Darkseid __CHASE: Mother Box Superman (NOT confirmed) __CHASE 2: Unknown *Was originally to be Series 5, but at WWLA Boy Wonder said waves would now alternate between Superman and Batman, thus switching Series 4 and 5 around. Also said that the new Batman was delayed until 2007. Series 5 Batman* (2007) __Batman __Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) __Joker (comic Batman line repaint with new accessories) __Two-Face __CHASE: Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) __CHASE 2: Stealth Jumper Batman (NOT confirmed) *Was originally to be Series 4, but at WWLA Boy Wonder said waves would now alternate between Superman and Batman, thus switching Series 4 and 5 around. i think its a good move. After all it's high time they answered ML's in some way. Hopefully they learn the good things and not bad things. Would love to see them do better than DC direct figures.

I hope they'll do more characters rather than limiting to just Batman-Superman related ones, maybe something like the JLU ones.

ok lah i will try to..stop..grumbling about DC Direct & stop being a naysayer, i think the pics look good unfortunately dunno who we're gonna be stuck with...at retail...
it's always good to see a good Supergirl and Azrael, hopefully they will expandinto more obscure characters like what Ml have done, of course with the perrenial popular characters to get that minimum threshold of breaking even, u can bet that there'll be whole lotta Batmen & Supermen, but hopefully they'll temper that with say, Ragman, Adam Strange, the problem with DC's head toy honcho, we dunno who they are, are they in the know like Toybiz's Jesse Falcon (X-23 who is a new hot character is scheduled to get plastic treatment) Will we get to see recent additions and changes that will follow DC's Infinite Crisis stories, will we see Catman, Chesire, Deadshot, Deathstroke? How about Harbinger? i know they've being released in DC Direct now but would we see thembeing available at mass market, let's hope that Mattel's marketting is in the know about comics and movies and the industry...then maybe they'll give Toybiz & Marvel a run for their money... although i'm hoping not then i'll have start buying them oh no if they could produce scultping quality in line with the recent Jim Lee & Alex Ross lines i'll be happy |
