According to the game's official listing on Xbox.com it has two-player co-op and competitive multiplayer when offline - implying a split screen mode. Online though this rises to six-player co-op and eight-player competitive. Despite Capcom having said nothing about the multiplayer so far the details haven't yet been removed from Xbox.com, at time of writing.

Some sort of co-op mode was hinted at when the game was first announced on Thursday night, but it wasn't clear exactly what it was. The assumption is though that the game will allow you to play through the entire story campaign with a friend, as in Resident Evil 5. But it could also involve a separate game mode, such as in Resident Evil Revelations on the 3DS.

How six players would work isn't clear as all the footage so far implies only two primary characters for each of the three plot threads. That does add up to six of course, but since each of the three pairs are all in different countries it suggests that the six-player option is a separate mode.

An alternative explanation for the numbers could be that Chris Redfield's campaign in China seems to involve him working alongside a number of soldiers, as in the screenshot above. Could this be the basis for the six-player mode?

For the record the six main story characters are Leon S. Kennedy and a new female partner; Chris Redfield and what seems to be the leader of the soldiers; plus a new mercenary character, and what sounds like Ashley from Resident Evil 4. Ada Wong is also rumoured to have her own unlockable story campaign.

Resident Evil 6 is due for released on November 20, 2012 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC version to follow.

The trailer is awesome, can't wait for the game to be release soon. Have been following the Resident Evil Franchise since the Playstation 1.

Am currently playing the RE: Operation Raccoon, but compared it to the Real Resident Evil game, Raccoon is simply lame.
